Earlier this month, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) US marked the opening of two new training facilities in Indiana. In a ceremony at the World Class Manufacturing Academy inside the Tipton Transmission Plant -- with a live feed linking the Tipton facility to a second training site in Kokomo -- the company highlighted the hands-on curriculum and cutting-edge technology that has been developed to train 8,200 powertrain employees.
World Class Manufacturing focuses on improving quality and safety while eliminating waste, enabling employees to make and implement suggestions on how to improve their jobs and plants. Buoyed by a $2.1 investment from FCA US and the United Auto Workers union, the goal for the two plants is to pass along WCM knowledge to more than 1,500 participants each year. With this investment, FCA US has now committed more than $2.1 billion to its Indiana transmission operations since 2009, adding over 4,100 new jobs along the way.
